A whole set of wedding stationery includes plenty of items. You have to make a save the date card, invitation card, RSVP and many more. They will certainly cost you something if you would like to get a really nice set of stationery.
In order to cut the cost, some couples will consider printing themselves. However, they may not know how to start and in fact there are some issues they have to be careful. Otherwise it will just end up with spending more money than hiring a wedding invitation company. The following are some tips for you to make a set of DIY wedding stationery.
1 Material
In fact, you need to have a brief idea of your design before you can choose your materials for the wedding stationery. There are different collections of paper you can select. However, you should never just buy the materias and hope that you can finish the printing within an hour.
You should firstly select different kind of paper and try to test if your printer at home can print on the paper with good quality. It is especially essential if you are using very thick paper and translucent tracing paper.
In the case that you would like your card to be thick but your printer cannot print on thick paper, you can try to print on a thinner piece of paper and then mount another piece of paper to it. In this way you can get a thicker piece of paper.
2 Size and Shape
Since oversized invitations may render a higher postage cost. You should check with the post office before you decide the size of the card. Besides, a simple rectangular shape can be a better choice for the sake of postage since invitation, in a shape of a star say, can be easily damaged during transportation.
3 Envelope
Checking the sizes of envelopes is very important. Since there are standard sizes of envelopes, you should define the size of your cards according to these standards. You can check from your local stores to see what sizes of envelopes they provide.
If you are going to make only a small quantity of cards, say 25 sets. You may consider making the envelope yourself so that you can have more freedom for the size of the cards.
4 Die-cutting, embossing and scoring
If you want to make your cards look more sophisticated, there are a range of tools to make die-cutting shapes and embossing effects. It should not be difficult to find these tools. However, since these tools are usually meant to be used for thinner paper. You have check if you can use these tools for the materials you choose. It will only be a waste if you find that they cannot be used with the paper you have chosen after you buy all these tools.
There are also tools for scoring. If possible, however, I will suggest you to buy blank cards which have been scored since scoring is in fact not an easy task.
5 Start working as early as possible
Once you decide to print the wedding stationery yourself, you have to start working as soon as possible. Sometimes a task which seems very easy may take you plenty of time to finish it. It will be a mess if you finally find that you cannot finish the wedding stationery on time. You should make samples of the cards before your start into the real production so that you can estimate how much time you will need to get all of the cards done.
