Food can be one of the most expensive parts of planning your wedding. In fact, you're lucky if you can get your reception catered for under $50 per guest. But if you're on a budget, you have a choice. Do you invite fewer people, or not feed them? Actually, what about getting some wedding recipes and making your own reception food? The benefits of making your own wedding food are many. First, you can control the cost. You also have more control over ingredients. When you make your own food and choose the ingredients, you can guarantee that all the reception food fits all the dietary guidelines of your choosing. Of course, your wedding day will be very busy, so are going to have to plan ahead. You want to test all the recipes well in advance. Choose recipes that freeze well, or that will stay fresh in the fridge for a few days. Get your friends and family involved. If you give them plenty of notice, several will be happy to set aside time a few days before the big day to help you make your wedding recipes. Deciding on which recipes to make and serve to your guests could be the hardest part. There are thousands of possibilities. Find cookbooks that have lots of great recipe ideas. Perhaps buy a few or borrow them from the library. The best resources, of course, could be the internet. There are literally thousands of recipes on dozens of recipe sites. You could put together a fine menu with just a few hours of research. Some things to consider serving at your reception are tea sandwiches (cucumber & cream cheese, carrot, pimento, etc.), skewered meats with elegant sauces, dips with wedges of pita bread, crackers with smoked salmon, potato skins with out-of-the ordinary toppings, etc. It's important to find wedding recipes that are both tasty and not your typical Saturday night party fare.
