Destination Wedding Traditions

The destination wedding is a wedding on the favorite place that we normally take vacation. The Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Fiji, Hawaii, and Greek are sample ideas for destination wedding.

The cultures, customs, and traditions of the country shape the way to conduct a wedding. Thus, the wedding slightly varies in each country. Here are some traditions in the favorite place for destination wedding.

Bermuda Wedding Traditions

The Bermudans places a sapling on top of the wedding cake. The sapling is a young tree. After the wedding, the couple plants the sapling in where the couple lives. Then, the sapling grows at the same time with the marriage of the couple.

Caribbean Wedding Traditions

In the Caribbean, they serve a black wedding cake with cherries and raisins. The wedding cake will be served with rum sauce. As for the menu, the goat curries, plantain fries, and chicken jerky are often served. The local drum beats and music enchants the couple all night long. There are endless wedding toasts for the long and lasting marriage.

Fiji Wedding Traditions

The father of the bride receives a special gift from the groom. The special gift is usually the tooth of the whale. The tooth of the whale represents the wealth and status to the local community. Of course, everybody drinks the kava which is the favorite local drink on the romantic and enchanting island.

Germany Wedding Traditions

At the end of the wedding ceremony, the married couple lights the well decorated candle on their hand. Then, the married couple takes the first dance at the wedding reception. The waltz is often used. On the first night, the relatives play practical jokes to make it hard for married couple.

Greek Wedding Traditions

The bride carries sugar or ivy. The sugar represents sweet life, while ivy represents eternal love. The bride also wears yellow or red veil. The veil represents the fire to keep the evil away. At the wedding reception, the plates are intentionally broken for good luck.

Hawaii Wedding Traditions

The Hawaiians make a special garland to wear by the married couple. The Hawaiians uses lei to make the garlands. The lei are a special garland of flowers. The ribbon secures the garland to the beach wedding dress and attire. The groom also wears a sash or waistbands. It is also customary to engrave the name of couple on the wedding bands.

Italy Wedding Traditions

The nuts and seeds which are coated with sugar are sprinkled at the wedding. The nuts coated sugar represents gratitude to the guests, while the seeds coated sugar represents fertility to the married couple. Italians called the tradition as confetti. Today, the nuts or seeds coated sugar are replaced with small pieces of colored paper.

Mexico Wedding Traditions

A beautiful rope which is made of fabric is loosely tied around the bride and groom. The beautiful rope forms a shape of the number eight. The eight also represents infinity or endless.

Puerto Rico Wedding Traditions

The marriage minister blesses the wedding coins for good luck. The groom gives the wedding coins to bride as a gift. The silver and gold of the wedding coins represents unity as the married couple lives harmoniously. The wedding coins also represent prosperity. Traditionally, the husband works as the wife takes care of the home and kids. Now, the husband and wife share the responsibility. There are thirteen wedding coins. The last coin represents Jesus Christ.
